I’m Laurel, HEY! I named Nya Rue Events after my monsters. I mean, daughters.

“Why did you want to be a wedding planner?” Honestly, it wasn’t something I ever thought of. But, as an alternative bride myself, I really struggled to find suppliers that matched my vision. So, I have spent the last few years finding the right suppliers for couples so their weddings can reflect them and not boring white weddings. I am lucky enough to have planned the bloody sickest weddings and call myself an alternative wedding planner.

In case you're wondering.. My favourite things in the world are, Bring me the Horizon (Follow You was my first dance song), tattoos (dare me and I’ll get it), American Horror Story (who doesn't unwind watching horror?) but let's be honest, I also love Sex and the City and Justin Bieber. I feel like that last bit is going to lose me couples.

What makes you an alternative wedding supplier?
As an alternative bride myself, I found it hard to find suppliers that understood me or suited our style. I have spent years finding the most incredible suppliers to fit my alternative couple’s style. Helping other alternative brides create their non-wedding, wedding, is such a dream! You don’t have to love heavy metal and skulls to be alternative, we want to give couples the freedom to be creative and fun. 

What do you do within your business to make it more accessible and inclusive?
I use inclusive language on all of my forms, website and socials. I support any couples with additional needs. I am always advocating for the wonderful communities that are underrepresented, as a mixed raced bisexual woman, I feel I have a good idea of how oppression feels!

What is your favourite random fun fact?
My husband told me last night that 'if you fold a piece of paper 34 times, it would reach the moon'. I'm confused and would love a debate about it
