What makes you an alternative wedding supplier?
I’m pretty new to the wedding industry and have decided that as I’m an alternative gal and that’s the music I love, then that’s the route I’m going to take. My aim is to only work within the alternative wedding industry because the people are always cool and the music is always great. I guess I’d be classed as an elder emo, although 17 year old me would definitely judge me for having a middle parting and my natural hair colour!
What do you do within your business to make it more accessible and inclusive?
As a disabled (FMS and HDS) and neurodivergent (AuDHD) person I am very passionate about disability and inclusivity. You’ll never find me saying things like ‘calling all brides’ or using gender specific language in my marketing. My contact form asks people to give me their pronouns and I address the couple as partner 1 and partner 2. I also state on my website that I am neurodivergent, which I feel will help fellow neurodivergent’s feel at ease knowing I’ll understand the way their brain works.
What is your favourite random fun fact?
My special interest is dogs so of course it’s going to be about dogs… the oldest dog to ever live was a Rafeiro do Alentejo called Bobi and he lived until the age of 31!
Hey, I’m Alexa, a thirty-something alternative music-loving musician from Nottingham who has been playing gigs for over 17 years!
Back in the mid 2000’s you could catch me screaming out the emo bangers at Rock City on a Saturday night, now life’s a little quieter and I put that energy into my live sets.
I’m definitely not your average Wedding Singer, I was raised listening to Metallica and Queen and have always had a love for heavy music. In my teens I found Alexisonfire and black eyeliner and never looked back.
I have six Wedding Packages and a 300+ song setlist which includes everything from the likes of Paramore, Avril Lavigne and Evanescence to Sleep Token, Ghost and Blink 182.
On the day, I adapt your song choices to the energy in the room. If the vibe is super laid back, I’ll play the songs with a soft vocal and guitar, but if people want to get the party started early, we’ll get the party started early!
Lastly, I should let you know that I am absolutely obsessed with dogs. I run a doggie business called Hounds of Love… so please warn me in advance if there is going to be a doggy ring bearer (so I can try and compose myself and not lose my mind whilst trying to sing you down the aisle!).
