The Indie Girl is a small, female-owned business run by myself, Sooz Combe. In my designs, I focus on fine jewellery with an alternative flair. Working in precious metals and gemstones. I like to create non-traditional rings with gemstones not usually used in engagement rings such as Onyx, Amethyst and Labradorite – however, if you have your heart set on a beautiful diamond then I would be delighted to make something for you.

The Indie Girl began in 2020 when I trained at Vanilla Ink Jewellery school in traditional jewellery techniques such as wax carving, metal casting and stone setting. In the past 4 years, I have continued to upskill, exhibited at various markets, and worked on many commissions. My work can be seen on my website.

I am currently based as a resident in Vanilla Ink in the East End of Glasgow, where she can take appointments in-house or can travel to meet clients in Central Scotland. 

Alternatively, if you live further afield in the UK I am happy to take zoom appointments for consultations where I am happy to discuss ideas for your wedding jewellery.

What do you do within your business to make it more accessible and inclusive?

I am currently in the process of making my commission form (previously it was emails requests) which will include pronouns to ensure I am addressing people correctly, I will also be including sections where people can advise if they have any additional needs (for example over zoom, do they need closed captioning or an interpreter as my studio has a BSL signer. If it’s an in person visit my studio has a lift and is very accessible) On social media I ensure there are closed captions on all communications

What is a defining moment for you within your business?

I previously worked as an accountant in the corporate sector, being able to step away from that and do jewellery as my main job was life changing for me.

Best live concert you've ever attended? 

I would have to make it a best festival, I saw Tom Petty, Pearl Jam and Springsteen in the one weekend at Isle of Wight Festival in 2012 and it is a memory that I will carry with me forever! Absolutely amazing!
