How long have you been together?

Since March 2022, so 4 years 3 months-ish, but we were friends for a while beforehand (met through Hinge, but it was back when Will was finishing up uni, so long distance would have been a sucker.) Stayed friends but met up later on, and the rest is history.

How long has the proposal been in the works?

Around the start of the new year, Will asked my mum and sister for their blessing in February 2026 and then from around March I suddenly had a “birthday present” lying around so not to look through stuff too much (my birthday is the 15th July and this man has never gotten my present until maybe a month / 2 weeks before), had my mum ask if I thought engagement was something that would come up soon or not, somehow got onto the topic with Will about how a proposal at Download Festival would be too predictable and had my best friend spending a bunch in the end just to be there because her ferry from Isle of Man was messing up last minute (little did I know, little liars!!)

Tell us all about your proposal!

This was our second year going to Download Festival and camping for the full four days. We'd already spent a couple of lovely days wandering around the village with our friends before the festival properly kicked off. Throughout those days, Will kept mentioning how much he wanted us to finally go on the ferris wheel – something we'd talked about doing since our first Download – so I was really looking forward to it.

On the Thursday, I stumbled across the Nox of York stall. As someone who's always been a bit alternative, I'd never really known what my dream engagement ring would look like, but I spotted one that came pretty close. In true "hinting without hinting" fashion, I pointed it out to Will, and we carried on with our day.

The first arena day was extra special because I got to see my best friend, Lozza, for the first time in months after she moved to the Isle of Man. We instantly hugged and cried (very on brand for me, less so for her, which somehow made me even more emotional).

Later that day, after Hollywood Undead, Will suggested we finally go on the ferris wheel while we waited for Pendulum. As we queued, I was too busy trying to finish my drink after discovering you can't take them on the ride, chatting to people around us, and completely missing how nervous Will had become.

When we got to the front, the ride operator assumed we'd be sharing with another couple we'd been chatting to, but I asked if we could go up on our own. For a split second, I had this tiny thought... what if he's about to propose?

As soon as the ferris wheel lifted off the ground, Will smiled, started fiddling with his backpack, and said, "We need to have a talk." He told me how much I meant to him, got down on one knee, and asked me to marry him with the most beautiful ring I've ever seen. I ugly cried, immediately said yes, and in all the excitement, we completely forgot to put the ring on.

By the time we got back down, Lozza and George were sprinting through the crowd towards us, beaming. We celebrated together during Electric Callboy's set, while jokingly accusing everyone of being filthy liars for keeping the secret.

It wasn't just the proposal that made the day so special – it was being surrounded by the people we love. Since then, we've been overwhelmed by the kindness, support, and excitement from friends, family, and even complete strangers who shared in our happiness.

Will and I have been through more than our fair share together, but we've always faced everything with love, respect, and communication. After years of trauma, mental illness, and, more recently, living with disabilities, I can honestly say he's helped me rediscover myself. He's shown me the joy of having your best friend as your partner and reminded me just how beautiful life can be.
